Recipe development for American Lifestyle Magazine

American Lifestyle Magazine is run by the media group Reminder Media in King of Prussia, PA, focusing on fabulous lifestyle content. 

Happy Fryday! For all you bang bang shrimp fans out there (whatever marketing person came up with that recipe name...shame) I present Sweet and Spicy Dipped Fish (and Chips). Beer tempura battered white fish fried crisp and dipped in a concoction of kewpie mayo, aged rice vinegar and sweet chili sauce. Farro Fried Rice is a unique hearty grain twist. There is a nice toothsome bite to farro that adds a lil’ something something to classic, otherwise typical, rice dishes. I like it. Instead of stir frying the eggy in, I poached it-giving in to some velvety mouthfeel. Oozy egg fan that I am. #farro #friedrice #poachedegg #friedricewithegg

Persian Egg and Leek Frittata is on the menu in the lab. Cast iron cooked, this flavorful  frittata is mostly herbs with a hearty mix of cilantro, dill and parsley. Grilled Peri Peri Chicken Shawarma has me wishing for warmer weather. What’s nice about this dish is that the spice is so warming that it almost works...if you squeeze your eyes shut and try to forget that you’re wearing 12 layers and that it’s negative ridiculous outside. Grilling indoors is naturally frowned upon but I sometimes use the ‘grill’ side of one of my cast iron griddles for a similar summer effect. Stay warm everybody!

My Breakfast in the style of Bibimbap. I ❤️ everything about bibimbap-the tangy kimchi, the bottom o’ bowl rice cracklins, silky egg goo, crisp veggies,  rando delicious banchan-like, bibimbap is what all those cereal commercials WISHED they were when they said “part of a well balanced breakfast”. So how did I breakfast-ize bibimbap? I just added ground breakfast sausage and whisked a bit of high-grade maple syrup (instead of traditional sugar) with my gochujang sauce. Bingo! Breakfast!

This year I wanted to make all the ornaments on my tree tasty and edible. I learned my lesson, when I was about 9, that stringing popcorn is child labor torture. 2nd soup and final #leftover challenge recipe! Thank you all for watching the videos and the support-you really made this tech challenged 👩‍🍳 feel the ❤️. Recipe for Turkey and Sweet Potato Tortilla Soup is listed below 👇👇👇 Soup:
2 tablespoons veg oil 
2 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
1/4 cup yellow onion, peeled and minced 
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon ground coriander 
1 tablespoon chipotle peppers in adobo, minced 
4 cups turkey broth 
1 1/2 cups crushed tomatoes 
1 cup diced sweet potatoes, cooked 
1 cup roasted dark meat turkey, chopped
1/2 cup canned black beans, drained and 
rinsed
1/2 cup yellow corn
Salt to taste 
Pickle Juice Red Onions: 
2 cups dill pickle juice 
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional) 
1 teaspoon whole cloves 
1 teaspoon whole peppercorns
1 large red onion, peeled and sliced 
Coconut crema:
1/2 cup sour cream
3 tablespoons coconut milk

Garnish:
Fresh cilantro
Tortilla chips or strips 
Avocado
Jalapeño slices (optional) *pickles onions *coconut crema

Soup makin’:
Heat oil in a large pot over medium high heat. Sauté garlic, onion, cumin, paprika, coriander and chipotles for 1-2 minutes. Pour in broth and tomatoes, bring to a simmer and reduce heat to medium low. Simmer for 15-20 minutes. Add turkey, sweet potatoes, beans and corn, cook for another 5 minutes. Season with salt. 
Pickle makin’:
Bring pickle juice to a low simmer over medium low heat with spices. Simmer for 5 minutes, remove from heat and pour over onions (place onions in a plastic or glass container). Refrigerate overnight. 
Crema makin’:
Whisk together sour cream and coconut milk until smooth and a little runny. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. 
Putting it all together:
Ladle soup into bowls and add desired garnish. Drizzle or dollop with crema before serving.

BBQ Brunch is on the menu and it’s guaranteed to get you back up and running. Beer Can Poached Eggs, a grilled Bloody Mary, and Quick and Easy Smoked Salmon, we met up with Patterson Watkins from Philadelphia to give us the lowdown on grilling up the perfect morning eats.
